Daily Homework 2014
The students in room 131 will use their iPads for homework this year. Their daily tasks will include ST Math, Spelling City, and independent reading. Students should work a minimum of 20 minutes on ST Math and complete the assignments for Spelling City each night. Spelling City assignments will be listed automatically when students log in to the app. Additionally, students should read a book on their level for at least 30 minutes per night. Students may read from MyON Reading, from a traditional book, or from one of the ebooks that we have available through Subtext. Some students will remember their levels from the STAR test administered at the end of last year. For those who don't remember, I will write the levels down for them on a post-it. STAR reading levels will change through the year as students continue to improve on the STAR test. I will make the STAR results available to parents on a regular basis. Please make sure your child is reading a book that is appropriate for his/her reading level. In fifth grade, students are expected to take AR quizzes on the books that they have read at independently. The quizzes may be completed at school during dedicated AR time or before school. Students enrolled in AM/PM or Dragon's Lair may also complete quizzes during their after school time.
All continuing Temple Heights students have had ample experience using the websites and apps listed above from previous years and should be able to access them independently at home. I will work with students who are new to our school to make sure they know how to access and use these resources. Please report any problems with the technology, and I will contact our school experts for possible solutions. If wifi is unavailable at your home, please contact me so I can make other arrangements for your child's homework.
Friday will be our last day with iPads. All iPads and chargers will be collected on Friday and turned in to Miss Candy in the library. I will be checking your iPad and charger return against the check out list from the beginning of the year. That means that each student needs to start moving their projects and pictures to their Google Drive. All projects that are not moved on or before Friday will be erased. So check you apps. for projects that you would like to keep. You probably don't need most of the pictures from your camera roll, but some of them might be part of a project, so check carefully.
Don't forget to email me a photo of yourself as a child 6 years old or younger. We will be using this photo for a graduation project. Get it to me as soon as possible. If you can't email me, bring the photo to school. I will scan it for the project.
Since we are coming to the end of the year, the students in room 131 are working hard to finish their STEM fest and State report projects. Only a few students are finished with both projects at this time. So, most students should be finishing these projects for homework. As always, reading is also required. The students who have finished their projects should work on another Personalized Learning project of their choice.

This form was made by me, Faith Boatman. This is where you let Mr. Doyle know that you want to share a new project. Just fill out this form instead of telling him when it is sharing time. Then Mr. Doyle will put you on a list and when it's time to share, he will let you know when it is your turn. Fill it out anytime, except during school.
Math e-text_We now have the ability to access the Pearson Learning math textbook on the iPads. I will be assigning regular homework from this book starting today, October 17, 2014.

Follow this link to the website to add rhythms to your playing. Click on "Custom Backing Tracks" at the top of the page and choose a song. Remember to silence all of the tracks except the drums and clapping tracks.
http://www.karaoke-version.com Electronic Reading Log This is our electronic reading log that was made by Alejandra Lopez. Now students in Mr. Doyle's class don't have to worry about losing their paper reading logs. Students also don't have to worry about bringing in their reading log every Friday because they will have to turn it in every day and Mr.Doyle will receive the reading logs by email. I hope the electronic reading log works out and everybody can use it, but if it doesn't work, you can always ask Mr.Doyle for a paper reading log on Mondays.
