Welcome, and thank you for visiting our website! We hope you enjoy learning about our class. We are excited to share with you the awesome projects that we are creating in fifth grade. :)
If You Want to Be Awesome, Treat People Awesome
In our class, we strive to create a culture of respect. We feel that if you want to be awesome, you need to treat people awesome. We also feel that kids can change the world. This video by Kid President sums up our commitment to making the world a better place.
Well, it had to happen sooner or later. Our awesome year has come to an end. We had an amazing graduation ceremony on June 3rd and a wonderful barbecue on June 4th, which was the last day of school. Let's just say there were a lot of tears. I'll miss you guys and I hope you have a fun Summer. Click the link below to see our graduation speech video. I hope you enjoy it.
In this section, I will be writing my thoughts about the students in our classroom. I will choose a new student each week and write a thoughtful paragraph about that person. I will share it with all of you on this website. I hope you enjoy it!
Sophia Gutierrez is the sweetenst person I have ever met. She is super nice to me and she is my BFF. I love playing with Sophia because she is always fair with me and the other students. At lunch, I like to sit with Sophia because she is fun to talk to. I'm so glad she is my best friend.
Nicoli Danley is a sweet, caring, and adorable person. If I could choose to be one person, it would be her. She calms me down when I get mad, and that's exactly the kind of person I would want to be friends with. Cheers! Nicoli.
Vince is a very funny young man. He was born on June 17, 2003. His favorite color is red. Vincent loves to play with his friends. His hobbies are listening to music and playing video games. Vince also loves to talk!!!! Vince has been doing well in math. He can finish his multiplication chart in 2 minutes! Way to go Vince!
Jatziri is the Student of the Week. She was born on May 5, 2004. Jatziri likes the color blue. Her favorite food is Chinese food. She also likes music. Jatziri has been working so hard this year. In my opinion, she has improved a lot. Her friend Alejandra says, "Jatziri is fun to play with." And Valeria says, "Jatziri is nice and kind." Something special about her is that she just got a new baby brother on October 2, 2014. He is named Dylan and he is soooo cute. I think that Jatziri is gonna have a great life in the future and she deserves to be the Student of the Week. Laisha
The other Student of the Week is Tiani. Tiani also has a cute new baby brother. He was born last week, and his name is Braxton. Tiani has been working so hard this year. In my opinion, she has the best handwriting in the whole class. She is also a good flute player. She already knows lots of songs. She is one of the fastest kids in the class, too. She is nice and kind to everyone she meets. Mr. Doyle says, "Tiani has a good head on her shoulders." Tiani doesn't know what that means, but she is pretty sure it's a good thing. I can tell that Tiani will have a good life in the future and I think she deserves to be the Student of the Week. Gracie
STEM At School!
On May 20, 2015 we had STEM at school! All the fifth graders worked hard on their projects for 2 months until STEM fest came around. During STEM Fest, fifth graders got to show their projects to kids of all ages. Teachers and parents were really impressed with the kids' creativity. Good Job to all of the fifth graders! We know you worked hard. By: Alejandra Lopez and Gracie Bunt
Each One Teach One
In our classroom, we believe in helping others. That's why we created a project called "Each One Teach One." During the year, we pledge to help others with problems big and small. Check out the gallery below to see what we've been up to!
For our next Each One Teach One project, we will be learning how to create our own personal websites. Mr. Doyle will train six students to be in the Weebly Club and use Weebly to design and publish a student website. Once those students are trained, they will each teach one more student. Then, those students will teach another group of students, and so on, until all of us know how to do it. Sounds pretty awesome, doesn't it?
STEM FEST 2015
On Wednesday, March 10, three of our students, along with several students from Mr. Santana's class, participated in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics festival at Vista High School. At the STEM Fest, they had an opportunity to share their projects with students, parents, teachers, and administrators from all around Vista Unified School District. They also received these awesome t-shirts commemorating the event and were treated like VIP's. Great job, girls!
Recently, we participated in the nationwide "Hour of Code" interactive computer programming seminar. It was an easy and fun way to learn something about the way computers operate. We will continue to participate in similar activities at Code.org and we look forward to sharing the results right here on our website. Watch us code below.
We've been very busy lately making pillows for our first grade reading buddies. We thought that would be an awesome way to show our support. After finding out a little bit about our buddies, we each chose a theme and planned and executed an actual pillow for them made of fabric and stuffed with soft filling. Now, our buddies can be comfortable as they practice to become excellent readers. Special thanks to Mrs. Doyle for teaching us to use the sewing machine. It was awesome!
Our parent volunteers, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle, and Mrs. Norman, have already begun to help us with awesome projects. Here is a slideshow of us working on our succulent garden and our clay pots. Contact Mr. Doyle if you would like to volunteer, too.
Hot Chocolate Bar
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Nunez for providing a wonderful holiday treat. It was truly a special event.
Meet the Teacher
Mr. Doyle was born in Akron, Ohio on November 18, 1964. He grew up in San Diego and attended Columbia University. His hobbies are sailing, reading, and playing with his daughter Emily. Mr. Doyle loves to wear tropical shirts and cargo shorts to school. His favorite part of Temple Heights Elementary is teaching his students (us). Mr. Doyle loves ice cream. He has been teaching for 27 years and is the coolest teacher I know. Tiani
In fifth grade, we study the American Revolution. But just reading about history can sometimes be boring, so we decided to make history more awesome by putting on a show. Our show is called "Heroes of the Revolution" and it includes marching, flute playing, and speeches. We even have vests and hats to wear as uniforms.Check out the slideshow to see us in action.
On January 14, we had an assembly about Colonial Times. A woman named Goodie Henshaw explained to us about life in America in the 1770's. She used props like clothing, books, flags, and items from everyday life to help us get a feeling for how life was back then. Some of our students even got to dress up! Check out the slideshow to get a better idea of what we saw.
Strawberry Festival Run
In the Spring, we are planning to run in the Vista Strawberry Festival Fun Run. We have already begun our training and look forward to completing the one mile run with many other kids in our community. Click on the link for more information.
We finally did it. This weekend, we finally got a chance to run in the Strawberry Run! It was truly an awesome experience.I guess all of our training paid off. Check out the pictures below to see us in action.
I'm so proud of the students who ran in the Legoland kids' run on Saturday. They really did a great job and had a lot of fun! Here is a picture of us before the race. Also, check out Christian's power point presentation below the picture to get a good idea of what the race was like. Give it a minute or two to load. Finally, thank you, parents, for helping out with this event.
