Hour of Code
Recently, we participated in the nationwide "Hour of Code" interactive computer programming seminar. It was an easy and fun way to learn something about the way computers operate. We will continue to participate in similar activities at Code.org and we look forward to sharing the results right here on our website. Watch us code below.
Pillow Project
We've been very busy lately making pillows for our first grade reading buddies. We thought that would be an awesome way to show our support. After finding out a little bit about our buddies, we each chose a theme and planned and executed an actual pillow for them made of fabric and stuffed with soft filling. Now, our buddies can be comfortable as they practice to become excellent readers. Special thanks to Mrs. Doyle for teaching us to use the sewing machine. It was awesome!
Parent Volunteers
Our parent volunteers, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle, and Mrs. Norman, have already begun to help us with awesome projects. Here is a slideshow of us working on our succulent garden and our clay pots. Contact Mr. Doyle if you would like to volunteer, too.
Hot Chocolate Bar
Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Nunez for providing a wonderful holiday treat. It was truly a special event.
Meet the Teacher
Mr. Doyle was born in Akron, Ohio on November 18, 1964. He grew up in San Diego and attended Columbia University. His hobbies are sailing, reading, and playing with his daughter Emily. Mr. Doyle loves to wear tropical shirts and cargo shorts to school. His favorite part of Temple Heights Elementary is teaching his students (us). Mr. Doyle loves ice cream. He has been teaching for 27 years and is the coolest teacher I know.

History Pageant
In fifth grade, we study the American Revolution. But just reading about history can sometimes be boring, so we decided to make history more awesome by putting on a show. Our show is called "Heroes of the Revolution" and it includes marching, flute playing, and speeches. We even have vests and hats to wear as uniforms.Check out the slideshow to see us in action.
History Trunk
On January 14, we had an assembly about Colonial Times. A woman named Goodie Henshaw explained to us about life in America in the 1770's. She used props like clothing, books, flags, and items from everyday life to help us get a feeling for how life was back then. Some of our students even got to dress up! Check out the slideshow to get a better idea of what we saw.
Strawberry Festival Run
In the Spring, we are planning to run in the Vista Strawberry Festival Fun Run. We have already begun our training and look forward to completing the one mile run with many other kids in our community. Click on the link for more information.
We Did It
We finally did it. This weekend, we finally got a chance to run in the Strawberry Run! It was truly an awesome experience.I guess all of our training paid off. Check out the pictures below to see us in action.
Legoland Run
I'm so proud of the students who ran in the Legoland kids' run on Saturday. They really did a great job and had a lot of fun! Here is a picture of us before the race. Also, check out Christian's power point presentation below the picture to get a good idea of what the race was like. Give it a minute or two to load. Finally, thank you, parents, for helping out with this event.
